Discover German – not only in the classroom!

Every month we offer at least 12 different Meetups of our German Conversation Club: a lot of opportunities to speak German and meet nice people! Just drop by – we offer something for every language level!

Our next event:

On Saturday September 22nd, we will watch the brewer’s parade and visit the Oktoberfest!

O’zapft is, and the world is visiting Munich!

On 22.9.18, the Oktoberfest opens its tents in Munich. Traditionally, on Saturday morning the innkeepers of the Oktoberfest tents hold their parade with carriages and big beer barrels and  a lot of live music.
The first attempt of the host Hans Steyerer in 1879 to drive with a decorated carriage with eight horses to Theresienwiese, was then still prevented by the police: D

But shortly thereafter, the parade with magnificent horse teams and decorated carriages full of beer kegs was a popular opening event. Traditionally, the first beer may be served only when all the landlords arrive with their carriages on the Theresienwiese and attheir tents. At twelve o’clock the mayor of Munich punches the first keg with the cry “Ozapft is!” (“Tapped!”) The serving of the Oktoberfest beer brewed specially for this festival is then started everywhere in the tents.

If you are already in Munich, you have to be part of this event!

We meet on Saturday morning to enjoy the parade together and then drink a Mass. Of course we speak German as usual. You will learn a lot about the Oktoberfest and will certainly learn one or two Bavarian words.
