We are pleased to announce an exciting new event: The contact group Munich Kyiv Queer in cooperation with the Cultural Department of the City of Munich and the CSD Munich presents an exhibition and reading of the Kiev artist Ivan Moon. At the opening, actor Herbert Schäfer (Tatort, Was ihr wollt) will read the lyrics to the pictures. The music for the evening is provided by the electro-indie band Squareplatz around the Munich musicians Sezgin Inceel and Stanislav Mishchenko.
We will serve sparkling wine and snacks and proudly present the freshly printed exhibition catalog.
There will be greetings from Lydia Dietrich, the former City Councilor, and the Consul of Ukraine in Munich, Dmytro Shevchenko. Guest of honor will be the art historian Susanna Partsch, who wrote an appraisal of Moons pictures in the exhibition catalog.
About the exhibition:
Ivan lives in the suburbs, beyond the Dnipro, far away from the picturesque streets and parks of Kiev Old Town. He works as a teacher. He does not show that he is gay. He shares an apartment with his mother. To be alone, Ivan roams through his neighborhood on Sundays and shoots photos. The camera in front of the eye, he looks at scenes that capture his life, suburban life.
Behind every motif, the artist Ivan Moon sets a story. They tell about himself, Ivan, but sometimes also about Brutt. Under this pseudonym, the name of his favorite chocolate, he publishes on his blog. Brutt can live the life that Ivan is denied as a gay man in Ukraine. Ivan himself only watches. His stories get under your skin. They are of a poetry that touches and shocks at the same time.
